Help & FAQ

Fixing common problems

Most posting hiccups you can sort out yourself in under a minute. Find your issue below — and if a network shows a warning, start with "Reconnect a network".

Connections & posting

A network says "⚠️ Reconnect needed", or posts suddenly stopped working

Social networks expire the access they give apps from time to time (a password change, a security review, or a token simply timing out). When that happens, reconnect it:

  1. Open Settings → Connections.
  2. On the affected network, click Disconnect, then connect it again.
  3. Try your post once more.

This fixes the large majority of "it worked yesterday" failures.

A post went to some networks but failed on others

That's normal — each network is sent separately. Use the ↻ Retry button that appears with the results: it re-sends only the networks that failed, so the ones that already worked won't be duplicated. If the same network keeps failing, check for a Reconnect needed badge on it in Settings → Connections.

"Media too large" / my video or image won't attach

Klaxon's size limits are:

  • Images: up to 12 MB.
  • Videos: up to 100 MB (200 MB for top-tier subscribers and testers).

If your file is over the limit, trim or re-export it smaller. Individual networks have their own caps too (e.g. Bluesky video is ~50 MB).

"Duplicate content" — it won't post the same thing twice

Some networks (X especially) reject an identical post. Change the wording a little, or drop in a variable like {time} or {date} so each post is unique.

Facebook & Instagram

Facebook rejected my video: "format we don't support"

This is almost always the video's codec, not its size. iPhones (and many newer Android phones) record in HEVC / H.265, which Facebook won't accept. Re-export or convert the clip to H.264 video + AAC audio in an .mp4 and it'll go through. Most editors have an "H.264" or "Most compatible" export option; on iPhone you can set Camera → Formats → Most Compatible to record in H.264 from the start.

Instagram won't connect, or I get a token error

Instagram posting needs a Professional account (Business or Creator) that's linked to a Facebook Page — a personal Instagram can't be used. Check:

  1. In the Instagram app: Settings → Account type → switch to Professional.
  2. Link it to your Facebook Page.
  3. Connect Facebook in Klaxon first, then Instagram.

X (Twitter)

Setting up X — which key goes where (and what to ignore)

Klaxon posts to X using your own free X developer app. The portal gives you several values — Klaxon needs four, and one is a decoy:

  • API Key ← your app's Consumer Key (sometimes shown as "API Key").
  • API Key Secret ← your Consumer Secret ("API Key Secret").
  • Access Token ← the token you generate under Keys and tokens → Authentication Tokens → Access Token and Secret.
  • Access Token Secret ← the matching secret from the same place.

Ignore the Bearer Token. Klaxon doesn't use it. Pasting it into the Access Token box is the most common mistake — it causes a Bad Authentication data (code 215) error when you post.

Two things to get right:

  1. The API Key/Secret and the Access Token/Secret are two different pairs from two different spots. The app-creation screen shows only the first pair (plus the Bearer Token to ignore); you generate the second pair separately.
  2. Set your app to Read and Write (User authentication settings) before you generate the Access Token. If it says "Read only", fix the permission and regenerate — otherwise posting and media fail. (The generate button may be labelled Generate or Set up.)

Easiest route: the built-in "Set up X — step-by-step" wizard in Settings → Connections → X walks you through every step.

"credits depleted" when posting to X

X charges to post through its API (Pay-Per-Use). When your balance runs out, posts fail with this message. Top up your credits in the X developer portal ↗ and try again. This is billed by X, not Klaxon.

Photos or video won't attach on X

The one-click "Connect with X" option posts text only. To post images or video to X, set X up with your own API keys (the "Paste keys manually" / step-by-step option in Settings → Connections → X).

YouTube

YouTube upload failed

First, reconnect YouTube (Settings → Connections → YouTube → disconnect & reconnect) — that clears most upload failures. If the error mentions a quota, you've hit YouTube's daily upload limit for the day; it resets automatically, so try again tomorrow.

Bluesky

Bluesky won't connect

Use your full handle (e.g. you.bsky.social) and an App Password — not your main account password. Create one in the Bluesky app under Settings → Privacy and security → App passwords. (One-click "Connect with Bluesky" also works and doesn't need an app password.)

Bluesky won't accept my video

Bluesky requires a confirmed email address before it will accept video uploads (it's their anti-spam rule — text and photos don't need it). Confirm your email in the Bluesky app under Settings → Account, then try again. Keep clips under ~50 MB.

Bluesky says my video was "already processed"

Bluesky de-duplicates by content, so re-sending the exact same clip is rejected. Post a different video, or make a small edit and try again.

Now Playing overlay

Set up the Now Playing overlay with Last.fm (YouTube Music, Spotify, Apple Music…)

The overlay shows your currently-playing track on stream. Via Last.fm it works with almost any music app — YouTube Music, Spotify, Apple Music and more — because it reads what you scrobble.

  1. Get a Last.fm account (free) at last.fm/join — skip if you already have one.
  2. Turn on scrobbling so Last.fm knows what you're playing. Last.fm walks you through it for every music app on their Track My Music page — connecting Spotify is one click, and there are easy browser options for YouTube Music and others. Test it: play a track, then open your Last.fm profile — it should say "Scrobbling now".
  3. Add your username to Klaxon: Settings → Connections → Now Playing overlay, then under Last.fm type your Last.fm username and Save (Klaxon checks it exists).
  4. Copy the overlay URL shown (keep it private).
  5. Add it to OBS: Sources → + → Browser → paste the URL → set Width 480, Height 140 → tick Shutdown source when not visible and Refresh browser when scene becomes active → OK, then drag it into place.

The card peeks in for 10 seconds on each new track, then tucks away, and hides whenever nothing is playing. Want longer? Add &peek=15 to the overlay URL.

Not showing? Make sure a track is actually scrobbling (your Last.fm profile should say "Scrobbling now"). No progress bar? That's normal on Last.fm — only the Spotify source shows one.
